Dianne's story behind the book

When I served on the board of directors of a small town pregnancy center, I witnessed the most amazing, courageous, dramatic, heart-tugging, life-changing stories.

Also during that time I witnessed the most incredible misunderstandings about what we were doing in the pregnancy center.

You’re just enabling those little girls to be promiscuous!

I won’t support that place – they refer people for abortion

Oh my goodness. No we aren’t and no we didn’t.

Listen to me. When a woman is pregnant, surprised, and alone -- whether she's a teenager or even younger, or in her twenties, thirties, or forties -- she just needs help. Friendly, compassionate, nonjudgmental help.

"If only people knew what we are really doing," I thought. "If only they could see what was really happening inside this pregnancy center..."

And the idea was birthed...

If I could just gather some true stories from these wonderful pregnancy centers, then people could see what we were doing -- see if for themselves.

If I could give people a glimpse inside our walls, surely they would be as thrilled as I am about what what’s going on inside these centers.

Maybe then they would support us. Maybe they would be inspired. Maybe they know someone who needs our help.

It became my passion to help people share their stories of unplanned pregnancy in order to help others in that same situation. Possibly they only needed encouragement and hope. Possibly a story in this collection could help them avoid regrets. Surely many of these true stories could help them find healing of past regrets. And knowing what others in an unexpected pregnancy did and where they found help could help them locate practical resources for themselves and their own situation.

So I set about gathering stories. It took more than eight years. And the focus of the book shifted from pregnancy centers to focusing on the people, those currently in an unplanned pregnancy or those with an unplanned pregnancy in their past.

Still, each of the 54 stories has a connection to a pregnancy center.

After more than eight years in the making, a ton of ups and downs, excitements and disappointments, Deliver Me: Hope, Help, & Healing through True Stories of Unplanned Pregnancy was released on April 12, 2011.

I found more than thirty gracious people who were willing to share their stories with me and gave me full and enthusiastic permission to share their stories with the world.

Interspersed with these true stories are dozens of interesting statistics, practical help, and valuable resources.
