In the late 1990's, I served on the board of directors of a small town pregnancy center. During that time I witnessed the most amazing, courageous, heart-tugging, life-changing stories.
Also during that
time I witnessed an incredible amount of misunderstanding about what we
were doing in the pregnancy center.
You’re just enabling those little girls to be promiscuous!
I won’t support that place – they refer people
for abortion!
Oh my goodness. No we aren’t and no we didn’t. If only people knew what we were really doing, what was really happening inside that center...
And the idea was birthed...
If I could just gather some true stories from these wonderful pregnancy centers, then people could see what we were doing. If I could give people a glimpse inside our walls, surely they would be as thrilled as I am about what what’s going on inside the center. Maybe they would support us. Maybe they would be inspired. Maybe they know someone who needs our help.
It became my passion to help people share their stories of unplanned pregnancy in order to help others avoid regrets, find healing of past regrets, and locate practical resources.
So I set about gathering stories. It took more than eight years. And the focus of the book shifted from pregnancy centers to focusing on the people, those currently in an unplanned pregnancy or those with an unplanned pregnancy in their past.
But the book maintained its original idea in that every one of the 54 stories still has a connection to a pregnancy center.
After more than eight years in the making, a ton of ups and downs, excitements and disappointments, Deliver Me: Hope, Help, & Healing through True Stories of Unplanned Pregnancy was just released on April 12, 2011.
I found more than thirty gracious people who were willing to share their stories with me and allowed me to share their stories with the world.
Included with these true stories are dozens of interesting statistics, practical help, and valuable resources.
